RELEASE: NYC New Liberals Endorse Jess Coleman and Ben Wetzler for City Council
Coleman and Wetzler are the new, pragmatic and abundance-oriented candidates that NYC needs right now.
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Today, the NYC New Liberals, a local chapter of the Center for New Liberalism, announced their first endorsements of the 2025 municipal election cycle: Jess Coleman and Ben Wetzler for New York City Council.
“Now, more than ever, our city needs young, bold leaders who can chart a new path forward,” said Tim Burke, President of the NYC New Liberals. “Jess’s and Ben’s strong commitments to advancing abundance, fighting corruption, and making local government work again are exactly what New York needs. We couldn’t be more excited to support them as our first endorsements of the cycle.”
Jess Coleman, a candidate in City Council District 1, has placed New York’s housing crisis at the heart of his campaign—an issue that resonated strongly with the group.
“I’m proud to have the endorsement of the NYC New Liberals, a group pushing for the kind of pro-growth, pro-housing policies our city desperately needs,” said Jess Coleman, candidate for City Council District 1. “For too long, progress on housing and so many other issues has been stalled by politicians who say the right things but refuse to act—who are more content protecting the status quo than offering a bold vision. I’m running to deliver the change New Yorkers crave—for Lower Manhattan, and for the future of our city.”
Ben Wetzler, running in City Council District 4, also earned the group’s endorsement for his forward-looking agenda.
“I'm honored to have the endorsement of the NYC New Liberals,” said Wetzler. “They share in my belief in building a city that works for everyone — through abundant housing, smart growth, and forward-thinking public policy. Housing affordability has been at the heart of my campaign from day one, and I look forward to working with them to create a more livable, dynamic, and inclusive New York.”
Both candidates represent a new generation of leadership committed to practical solutions and a politics of abundance. Their vision and energy make them uniquely equipped to meet the city’s biggest challenges—and deliver real progress.
As the June primary approaches, the NYC New Liberals will be knocking on doors, making calls, and mobilizing support to help elect Jess Coleman and Ben Wetzler to the City Council.
